In this part of the PCOI circle, we are giving some information about the current state of the order picking process. After that, we will show the impact of the AR glasses in the future state and what safety measures need to be taken when using the AR glasses in the process.
Current state
The process that is being focused on is the order picking process in the context of the warehouse of coolblue. To describe this process we used a black box and a system drawing. Besides the current state, we also show the future state in a system drawing. In the future state, the process is shown when the AR glasses are implemented in the order picking process of coolblue.
The first drawing is a black box of the Coolblue order picking process. The scope is only taken on the order picking process because that is the main focus of the subject. The outcome of the order picking process is a pick order and picked packages. These will go to the package department of Coolblue. The income of the order picking process is the order from the customer and the stored packages which are stored during the inbound process.
When we
zoom in to the blackbox we see that there are three different actions during
the order picking process. We see that based on the order a pick order will be
made by planning. With this pick order, the route will be determined and when
the route is determined the pickers can collect the orders and deliver them to
the package department.
Future state
In the new situation when AR glasses are being used the route does not need to be determined, but the software will choose the fastest route and will show it on the AR glasses. In order to give the pickers the right pick order, the planners need to appoint a picking order to the AR glasses of the pickers. A digital pick order will be sent to the AR glasses. When the Order is picked the picked packages will go to packages and the planning team will send the digital pick order to the packaging area.
Safety measures
When using AR glasses there are some safety measures that need to be taken into account.
To prevent eye weariness it is recommended to use the AR glasses for a maximum
of two hours and after this, the employee needs to do another activity for one hour
long before it starts wearing the AR glasses for another two hours.
To prevent the glass from the AR glasses to break, a thicker glass is being used. The environment that is being worked in has a higher risk of the breaking of thin glass, so there is a need for thick glass in the AR glasses. This will prevent eye accidents in the working environment.(Vision picking: augmented reality en ergonomie)
